I like the name Gianelle or Janelle like from Teen Mom. It is a form of John which means God is Gracious and meanings are a big thing for Dh. Anyway I think it is really pretty spelled Gianelle but I just know if I choose it lots of my friends will automatically think teen mom and for those who don't watch janelle was crazy and i think is in rehab right now. Seriouly, tons are naming their boys Bentley now and my SIL just named her son Kyle.

Would you let a tv show affect your name pick? And how do you feel about Gianelle?

I don't care for that name, but it's just NMS.

I don't think I'd let what OTHER people think of a TV show effect my name choices. We are going with the boy name Emmett (99.9% sure) and it's not a Twilight reference, but given the spelling and timing, people will think it is. That doesn't bother me. And my oldest kid is Luke, which is not a Star Wars reference, but it's surprising how many people assume it is.

Who cares where they think you got your name? If you're going to rule out names that friends and family have associations with (either media or personal) then your options will be very slim! The only opinions and associations that matter are yours and your husband's.

The TV reference should not matter if you like the name. People are always going to relate names to something and they will either like it or dislike it based on that. If you relate it to something and like it, then name your child that. It's your child.

The spelling Gianelle may cause confusion for your child, it's probably better spelled Janelle or Jenelle because it is more common. Gianelle will never be spelled right.

I don't think you should be too concerned about the T.V. reference, people may make that connection but with Janelle being a pretty common name it's not something that will necessarily come up. Even if it does, however, it doesn't really matter. By the time she's 10 years old, nobody will even remember that. Use the name you like!

I think like PP said, Gianelle may be mispronounced and misspelled but if that's the name you like you should go with that.

I wouldn't worry about the Teen Mom reference honestly, being a reality show its not like she's going to be around or remembered in the next few years not like a celebrity. I would spell it Janelle though, I would pronounce Gianelle Gee-ah-nelle, unless that's what you are going for!

I like the Janel spelling.

I think Janel is common enough that people won't automatically go there.
