I wasn't saying it was rude because you simply dislike the name. That's not what's rude. I dislike a lot of names, and have no problem saying so and try to do so respectfully.

OP, would you tell your SIL to her face that you think the name she picked out is a stripper name? No, you probably wouldn't. Because you wouldn't want to be rude and offend her.

No, I would never say anything like that to her or anyone else IRL. I was shocked myself at my immediate reaction to seeing the name Magnolia and couldn't figure out where my thought came from or how to get it to go away. mlbsnb's response has greatly helped me get a new perspective on the name, thank goodness. It's still nmsaa yet the pole dancer image isn't all I think of.

Also missing 11 precious little ones here with us but for a moment.

VERY cautiously expecting after two losses early 2013. Hoping and praying my Valentine's Day due date baby sticks this time.

I like both Aspen and Magnolia. My cousin just had a little girl who they named Aspen. And I also think of the flower and the movie Steel Magnolias. Cute and great NB possibilities.

I would tell someone it sounded like a stripper name BEFORE they had the baby, but not after. But I wouldn't say that to just anyone.

My first thought was Mongolia. But I know another lady who named her daughter Magnolia and she goes by Maggie. I would have a tough time calling her Magnolia, just doesn't seem like name material.

I think of a flower. I saw someone named Magnolia and they called her Lola. I thought it was cute and beautiful.
