What do you think of the name Megan? Is it too dated to our generation? My BFF is named Morgan, but I don't care for Morgan on a girl (specifically because BFF is a dude and I can't picture it on a girl anymore), so I was looking for a similar alternative.

How do you pronounce it?
MAY-gen
MEG-en
MEE-gan

Do you like any of the alternate spellings?
Meghan
Meagan
Meghann

I LOVE Megan. It's classic and timeless, plus it's good for any stage of life. One of my best friends is Megan and I have always thought she had a gorgeous name. I like the simple spelling of Megan pronounced Meg-en. It has nicknames, but can also be kept at Megan. I love it! What a beautiful idea!

It's probably in the same generation group as Heidi, imo. I have a friend whose newest baby is Megan.

I don't care for the alternaspellings. I say it "MEGG-ehn" if that makes sense.

I like normal spellings of names. Megan is more classic than dated.

My BBF has an 8yo Megan, her sisters are Devin 14 and Erin 12

Megan is very popular where I am at the moment, but back in the States I would say it's dated

I agree that its more classic than dated. I would pronounce it MEG-an, with that spelling. If that is the pronounciation you like, I'd keep that spelling.

I say it's kind of dated. I pronounce it MEG-en. I like the spelling of Megan best.

My sister is called Megan. She is nearly 15. I would say its more classic than dated. We called her Meggie when she was little and now she goes by Meg to her friends.

I'm just lurking and thought I'd mention that I agree with this totally. I may be biased though. My name is Megan. I've never been picky on how people pronounce it but my family and I (when I introduce myself) pronounce it Meg-en. My husband and one or two close friends call me Meg. Everyone else (the rest of my family included) calls me Megan.

I have to say that I think Megan is dated. It makes me think of the 80's, slouch socks and crimped hair. I expect to find it in people my own age (mid/late 20's- born in early 80's) but not in new babies.

I like Megan and actually thought about using it. I don't think it's too dated to use. I pronounce it Meg-en.

I think Meg is an adorable nickname.
