Male or female?
I posted this in the middle name game thread, intending it to be for a boy, but the person responded giving it a female middle name. It got me wondering which gender everyone feels it suits better, and why.

For some reason I think of Shiloh as totally feminine.

I think of it as a girls name thanks to Angelina Jolie naming her daughter that.
The battle of Shiloh was a Civil War battle I think it is called the Battle of Shiloh by the south and the Battle of Pittsburgland by the North. So that would have normally made me think boy.
It is a place name thus can go either way.

I liked this name before Angelina used it... and I honestly liked it on a girl back then...

Male. Shiloh is a male Beagle in the children's book entitled Shiloh. It has also been made into a movie.

I can't see it on a kid at all, because it's a dog. It was a male dog, but it does not feel masculine to me AT ALL.
There are some names that I don't like because they are neither feminine enough for a girl, or masculine enough for a boy (Tristan, Emerson/Addison, Ellis), and Shiloh is one of them. Cute for a beagle. Doesn't work for a kid.

It's just too feminine to me. It has a soft feeling, not a masculine feeling, so I just always pictured it on a girl.

The only Shiloh I have ever known was a girl. I had her in grade school for several years and she's on my FB friends list now.
And then, yeah, Angelina's daughter is the only other one I know of.
I never thought of it as a boy's name.

First I think dog because of the story, but if I were to use it on a child I would say girl.

I think it's 100% male, even though it is a soft name (which doesn't automatically mean feminine!). I'd never use the name, it's not really a name that I like, but I most definitely think it's a male name. I don't have a dog associate with it. I see it as a human name that sometimes gets used on pets (much like Bailey, Heidi, Bella, and Izzie- all pet names in our family/close circle of friends).

Definitely male. I associate it with the beagle in the children's story, and with the Civil War. It doesn't sound feminine to me at all. A female name would be Shila or Shyla.

Girl. I have loved this name before Jolie named her baby girl that. I was so mad when she did. Now-I would love to name our baby if it's a girl Shiloh, but I am worried people will assoicate with Angelina and Brad
