Nickname names?

The basis of that is I really like the name Hattie, but I have a hard time liking it enough becuase I dont like any formal names that go along with it (like Harriet or Henrietta [sp] ). So WDYT of nickname names?

I really dislike the majority of them, but I don't think Hattie is nearly as bad as most. I imagine most people don't even know which name it comes from. I know a little girl named Millie, just Millie, and I don't mind that so much. I also know a Katie, an Alli, and a Charlie - all used as given names - and those bug me.

I think they are fine, if you like the name better than any of the full names I don't see the point of using a name you don't care for just to get the nn. I think Hattie can stand on its own.

I usually don't like nn for names but Hattie is cute. Most people won't realize it's a nn anyway... not like Bobby or Willie

Hattie - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Also, Hatia, though I think it's pronounced Hay-shuh rather than Hat-ee-uh, is a cute alternative.

I'm usually not a fan of nickname names, but I think Hattie is one of those that many people wouldn't realize was a nickname. I think Hattie's sweet though

I think they're fine as long as your child doesn't grow up with a kiddie name like Candy or Gigi. I think they're not "grown up". If it's something like Hattie, it's fine because someone at all stages of life can use it.

Ditto. I think Hattie definitely works on its own.

I think it depends on the name. I like Hattie.

I think you name the child what your going to call her so I would just use the name Hattie without bothering with a formal name. My husband disagrees and I'd guess the majority would share his opinion that you should give a formal name on the birth certificate. You could always use a formal name for the middle name to give the child an alternative for professional use.

I always thought of Hattie as it's own name.

It depends on the name, I do like some. I think Hattie can stand alone as a first name.
