I really like it actually. I would go with the way it is spelled in the books and game. To me it's pretty easy to see how to pronounce from it's spelling. I think it's very pretty and if you have to have a nickname option (I'm someone who's very picky about nicknames and generally prefers no nickname) Leesi would be sweet for a little girl.

CAMM, I hear ya, I was totally annoyed by the whole Bella-name-craze. Maybe it would be popular enough so the name wouldn't seem like it's out of nowhere but not so popular that people are like "UGH, come on already!!". ...I guess I can hope?
Hopingfor1son, thanks for middle name suggestion! And I am glad you like Khaleesi- for me at least!
Jersey, I know, right?! I just love that nickname. I definitely think it is pretty cute!
I wish I could know what gender this bean is right now...

While I have never seen the show/read the books I want to give you one piece of advice. If you LOVE a name, dont worry about people having a hard ite saying it. You would be surprised how many people dont know how ot pronounce seemingly simple names. Its hard to get awak from. My son is Orion- O-rye-on. Prettu cut and dry to me but get ALL sorts of weird pronunciations. So if its going to happen, have it happen to a name you love and wont mind correcting
Also for the record, I like the way it sounds, it's not my personal bstyle byt it has a nice pretty sound to it.

I am also due May 2012 and we are naming our baby girl Khaleesi too! We are also having a rough time with a middle name. I liked Khaleesi Nicole, Khaleesi Shay and Khaleesi Brielle but none hit home for DH. Maybe one will for you!

I think Khaleesi is nice, my only problem with it is that, working with animals, it sounds like Calici (Calicivirus) which is a disease that cats can contract but thats my own assosciation

That's awesome! I like Khaleesi Brielle best for you. Question for you, are you getting any negative reactions from family members who hear your chosen name? And if so, how are you dealing with it?
JLynn, glad you like the name! And do you mean my spelling or the other girl's spelling of it? I've considered both but thinking its probably going to be Kaleesi for us.
Elysia, ahhh, I know!!! I read that somewhere and it was something else that got me thinking/worrying. :S the only thing I've been able to say is just that it is separate in my mind you know? Plus its different spelling and its calicivirus, one word, so hopefully it will be okay. I do worry though! Uck, hopefully it's not a terrible decision and isn't as recognizable as some very coming virus, like naming your baby Ebolla or Syphilis, lol!

To be honest I dont think many people would make the connection to Calicivirus unless their pet has had it or they work closely with animals

I think it's a cool idea and I like the way it sounds (i've also read the books)
but I think you should consider that your child will probably have trouble with people mispronouncing and misspelling their name their entire life. So you know, think about whether that's important to you or not.
I have an unusual spelling of a common name for my name and I actually do really like it, I think my spelling is really pretty. But it is kind of annoying that I have to spell it out every single time. A lot I don't even bother and I let people just misspell it since it's not worth the trouble (like at Starbucks, etc.)

I think it is very pretty and not as "Far out there" as you think it is. It's would be a refreshing break from all the Kileys, Kelcy, and Kinseys. I myself would spell it Kaleesy.

I love the way it sounds! That show is awesome and I am a huge fan of Daenerys myself...but, I feel like it looks made up and I can't find an alternative I like. Danaris, Danarys, Denarys....sigh.
I kind of feel the same about the way Khaleesi looks. If you want an option that is more "mainstream"...you could go with Calista and call her "Calisi" as a nickname? Or Kalissa (form of alice) with nickname Kalisi.
Anyways, when in doubt...go with what you LOVE because you have to say it every day

Wow, small world with great minds thinking alike - we named our baby girl Khaleesi Nicole (born on January 4th 2012) For us, Nicole came from being my middle name.
We kept the name to ourselves until she was born, but for the record we've had nothing but good feedback on the name since announcing it - though I'm sure that no one would say otherwise since it was already "confirmed" by the time they heard it! But everyone has said how beautiful and pretty they think it is.
She's already been called "Leesi" and "Khal" and we like both those shortenings - as well as all the others we could think of (e.g. "Lease", "Kallie").
We used the original spelling, Khaleesi, and 90% of the time people don't realise it's from a book/tv series. We're actually proud of it being from there, though, so although I saw one earlier poster say that they thought it might be a negative ("oh did you name her after Game of Thrones?"), we love it when people say that.
And I've only had 2 people so far mention the animal virus

Thank you so much for the feedback!! So glad to hear you've had nothing but good experiences when telling people your daughter's name. I still sometimes worry about it, but know that we are going with the name- it's already in her room and things and we don't really have another option, lol!

I just heard this name in the baby room where I work. I had no idea it was from a book! I thought they just made it up. Very cute though. The eeee sound at the ends of girl names(like my name) is very peppy and upbeat sounding

Khaleesi is growing on me as I read this thread alone! lol! It is pretty, but seems to be more common than you'd think with 2 other people who have named/are naming their LO that. hehe I think I like the spelling "Kaleesi" the best. I also LOVE "Tyrion", a very strong sounding name, as someone mentioned... though I can see that becoming very popular soon too.

I feel like such a dork right now I got so excited when I read this. I love love the name Kahleesi. In all honesty Im thinking of the name Nymeria which is the name of Aryas' wolf. Im mildly concerned that its a bit of a mouthful but I still love it! XD I also admit that I like Cercei as well but with the hole incest thing Im not sure if it would be in bad taste anyway middle name suggestions.
Kahleesi Grace
Kahleesi Anise
Kahleesi Marie
