I don't like it as a first name but I think it would be OK as a middle name.

Soleil is French for sun... and actually pronounced so-lay.
But it's a name, so you can pronounce it however you wish =P[/b]

the french pronunciation is much prettier, imo

I don't like it...and I never would've got the pronunciation of So-lay from the way it's spelled.[/b]
haha I guess its clear you aren't Canadian then. . . .

I like the sound of the name (I would probably pronounce it So-Lay), but I'm sure those who aren't particularly literate in the French language would pronounce it wayyy wrong....lol Not that this is really important, because I named my sons middle name Daman, (Da-Maan), and EVERYone thinks it's either Damon or they think it's pronounced Da-man, (As in The Man...difference between "man" and "maan").[/b]

We're from Canada so most people here would know how to pronounce it well.

cute name, reminds me of Soleil Moon Fry, who played Punky Brewster (who now herself has a child she named Poet!).

I'm pretty fluent in French so it would pretty much be like naming my child "sun". It's pretty, the way many French words are, but I wouldn't use it on my child. It's pronounced "so-lay", I've never heard of it pronounced any other way!
Interesting side note-my ex boyfriend, who was very very friench is named Solan (So-len)
