Marnie as a nickname for Hermione?

I know people will want to use a nickname, and the first person to try Hermy will lose a tooth. So I need other options, lol. Marnie and Ione are the only ones that come to mind, but using Ione is weird to me, since it's a full name that's been on my list for ages, lol.

I think Marnie would be a bit of a stretch, though if you like it then there is nothing stopping you. What about Mione though? It's like the name you like and is the second half of Hermione.

Marnie is a bit far even for me. What about Maia? Still a stretch but the sound is there, kwim?

Yes, IMO it's too much of a stretch. ^ I think Mione is good though

I like Mione as well, but I don't think Marnie is a huuuge stretch if you established it as a nickname immediately following her birth.

I think it could work but I prefer Mione.

I really don't think Hermione lends itself well to nicknames, lol. Even in Harry Potter, they never shortened it. That's one of the things I love about it, because I'm really not big on nick names (except things like Bubba, Sis, etc). I just know that if I don't pick one, she's gonna be Hermy and I'm gonna hate it. I'm not sure that Ione or Mione (which I do like well enough) would really be short enough for people to use it. =/ They have to like the nickname, or they'll just ignore me. Much like they would behave if I insisted her name is HER-MI-O-NE, lol.

I agree that Marnie is a bit of a stretch, and I think may lead people back to mispronouncing the whole name. I like Mione, and the Maia suggestion. Im also a fan of the 'you will call my child what I tell you to call my child' philosophy
