For those of you in your thirties- I'm sure you experienced the Jennifer/ Jessica phenomena firsthand in the US. Those were not the only names that were wildly popular/repetitive and now very dated from that era. (I remember 4 people named Michelle, 3 named Cheryl, and countless named Amy & Meredith, Melissa, Christina, Nicole in my graduating class) But I think some of those names are really pretty! Actually they would be a top choice for me if I had not grown up with the generation and fear my friends on facebook would think I am naming my child after them!

What 80's name do you secretly love but feel it is too dated to use right now?

I love:
Heather
Ashley
Kristen

Christopher

Tiffany! I love that name! Something about that name reminds me of mall tours and neon colors. And it makes me smile.

Oh Amber...such a pretty name as well. I forgot about those names that have since disapeared.

Good link!

I really, really do not like 80's names. I guess I'm just burned out on them from hearing them so much? I never knew a Meredith and still do not, so I can't believe how popular that was.

Now, some of the boys names are classics or new classics and I like some of those:
Anthony (DS1's mn - LOVE as mn, but do not prefer as fn)
Charles - (never knew any growing up so it's a surprise for the 80s)
Christopher
James
Samuel
Thomas (my DS2's mn - LOVE as mn, but do not prefer as fn)
William

Again, the only girl ones I like are classics:
Anna
Victoria

I always liked Megan and Erica but they were very popular when I was growing up

Being an 80's baby myself, I must say my favorite 80's name for a girl is Jennifer. When I was in kindergarten (1986-ish) there were about 6 girls in a class of 30 with that name. I think it could be re-vamped as "Gennifer" for a more modern look and feel. Or maybe something like Jenna.

For boys, hands down, Matthew. In that same kindergarten class, there were about 5 Matthews.
