I found out on Thursday that I am expecting baby #3! we are team green. we talked about names yesterday, and there are very few that my husband likes. and I mean 4 total, 2 boys names and 2 girls names.

we made a compromise, I picked the girl first name and the boy middle name and he picked the boy first name and the girl middle name. we had to do it this way because we couldn't agree!

so the names we have right now are Julie Madison for a girl (I picked Julie, he picked Madison. I would have gone with Julie Rose if it had been me) and Benjamin (Ben) Thomas. He would be called Ben right from birth. Thomas is important for me to use somewhere, it is a family name on my side.

so any other ideas for us? I don't really feel like budging on Julie, but can you think of any other boy names? I like Ben a lot, but there is a little Ben at my church and we see them every week, would that be weird?

Oh, and in case you're curious, the only names DH liked even a little bit were Benjamin, Zachary, Madison, and Olivia.

I love the first names your husband picked!!! They are all beautiful but if you are looking for more boys names, I tend like traditional ones so I will tell you some of ours.

Some of the boys names I like:
Alexander
Oliver
Henry
Harrison
Ethan
Aiden
Colin
Thomas
Bentleigh
Rowan
Daniel (husband's name)
Ashton
----
I don't know why, but I am not the hugest fan of Julie (sorry). It sounds older to me like a 30-40 year-olds name. I like the name Julie if it has a hyphenated middle name or something joining it like: Julie-Anne or Julianne.
----
On naming your son a name someone else you know already has, I think that is fine unless he is a close relative or very close friend. Benjamin is a very nice name and if you chose it , it is bound to come up and you are bound to know a few other Ben's but it doesn't mean your some couldn't be unique. He could be a Benji , Jamie, Benny OR he could be another Ben. There is definitely nothing wrong with having the same name as someone else, it can be a common talking point, a way for him to make friends when older etc etc.

I can't explain it, but I am very attached to Julie for some reason. when we named Rebecca my FIL was like, "that's a grandmother name" and I didn't care lol. the only other girl name I like is Audrey, but DH doesn't like it at all.

my first choice for a boy name was Thomas James, but I am not in love with it. I don't like Zachary or Olivia and Madison is too trendy for a first name.

oh, and our last name is hyphenated, so no more hyphens for us

Hehehe, well if you like it you like it. I'm just an anonymous internet mommy-to-be

I really like the name Audrey and I like Audbrey and Aubrey too.

I like Thomas James too, it is very "normal" and structured. A good solid name.

I read somewhere that is important for both parents to identify with the name in a positive name and it also helps with bonding (apparently) so you both have to love the names.

I am sure you will find one you both like

I like Julie as a nickname but much prefer the full Julia with the nickname Julie.

Other suggestions:

Iain
David
James
Owen
Andrew
Elliot

I love David but that's my brother, and Andrew, but that's my brother in law. I do like Owen, but DH doesn't.

I had no idea that Julie was a nickname for Julia.

Henry and Harrison are kind of cute.

Ben is a good solid name for a little boy I wouldn't worry too much about an acquaintance having the same name especially since it is so traditional IMO! And I love middle names with a family connection!

If you love Julie go for it! I like Audrey a lot more, but I would be hesitant to name a baby something my DH hates!

Thanks, Kelli. The little Ben we already know is the youngest son of a family in my church who I used to babysit for. I haven't babysat for them since 2007, when my daughter was born. Ben is their 8th child, he will be 2 in November. my family knows their family really well, my sister plays music with them at their house and all of their kids talk to and play with my kids at church functions. they almost always come up to talk to us with Ben so he can play with my 2 year old. I feel like it is just approaching the line of "should we use this or not." if he were an older child it would be different, you know?

my friend also babysits a 2 year old Ben.

another question: DH has a 16 year old female cousin named Erin, is Aaron off the table for us?
