I am 21w pregnant with my first child. DH and I thought that we were having a girl until week 16, so we had a girl name all ready to go. We were not only surprised to find out we're team blue, but also super unprepared in terms of names. So, we have been obsessively looking for a unique (but not unheard of) name for a while now, but we may have decided last night:

Chester Clark.

Our runner-up name is Desmond Clark.

Any thoughts, opinions, suggestions welcomed!! Thanks in advance!

Chester I like in theory, but I think there is too big of a negative connotation/too easy to make fun of. Sorry. I don't really like Desmond, it's a nice enought name just NMSAA. Out of the two I much prefer Chester. Good luck with your decision.

Congrats on team blue!

I personally wouldn't choose Chester because of the negative connotation and easy to make fun of, like a previous poster mentioned.

I do love Desmond Clark though!

I think Chester is super cute. I get the impression that Desmond is on the rise in popularity and I almost never hear Chester. Maybe my brain is not turned on, but I can't think of any negative connotations with Chester.

Chet is a cute nn!

Yes this was my first thought. For this reason I would never use the name. Kids and adults are so mean. I would never want to give my child a name that sets them up to fail.

I do think Chester is a neat name but people have turned it into a "bad" name. Which sucks.

I don't like Chester either. I agree with the other ladies with setting the kid up to be picked on..well and then I would get in trouble for getting into a fight with a 5 year old..LOL..but anyways. I like Desmond better.

I like Chester better. Desmond Clark makes me think of the football player.

How about Charlie Clark? Chester is a town near my hometown that has a high crime rate, so it wouldn't be a first pick of mine. It's like when so many kids are named Camden now - one of the highest murder rates exist in Camden, NJ. Charles / Charlie have that same quality without having any connotation. For the record, I'd never heard "Chester the Molester"; potential rhymes wouldn't be a reason to not use a perfectly good name.

I think Chester is adorable, and my brain didn't even go to the negative connotation. I think it'd be fine; kids will find a way to pick on any name.
