If we have a boy, DH and I want to use my father's name as a middle name Todd, since he is not on good terms with his father and it is a tradition on his side to name the firstborn after parent and grandparent in some way. If we have a girl, DH is set on honoring his mother in some way, except I'm not a big fan of her name and we're not sure what to use as some sort of creative derivative.

I like the idea of our first child's name having some heritage and honoring his or her family members, but I'm not sure what some good suggestions are. Her name is Dana. I suggested Danielle which I like alright as a middle name, and he's ok with it, plus my brother's name is Daniel, so that's cool... But do you ladies have any other ideas for middle names that could honor his mother in some way?

The only ones I can come up with are:
Danika
Dayne

I do like the idea of Danielle too since it honors two family members

Thanks ladies. Jordana is a possibility, but I'm not sure it's our style. This is a tough one. It might have to be Danielle. We have lots of time to decide what we like though. hehe

Or you could use Dana as a first name, and call her by her middle name.

A good friend of mine is Dana Elizabeth and goes by Liza.

Is her maiden name something you could use somehow?

I just don't want to use the name Dana, we like the idea of using something that takes from the name, similar, but not the same.

Nah, it's very "last-namey" hehe It doesn't work at all as a first name. Danielle is growing on me more as a middle name though.

I think Danielle is a great choice, it works well as a middle name!
