My husband surprisingly looked up boy names out of the blue. Industrial Revolution names. He came up with Cooper Lorraine which I love. Lorraine was his grandmother's name and the initials are husband's initials. I think Lorraine is fine as a middle name on a boy, I'm pretty much of the mind set that anything goes when it comes to the middle name. Cooper, possible nn Coop, I am just in love with. I am not a fan of the Micheal/John/David/etc. names which is what I expected my husband to want so pleasantly surprised with his taste. No offence to those who do, I just prefer to avoid extremely common names if possible (my daughter's names are Karin "kuh-RIN" and Delaney). The other name he suggested was Shane. I cannot wait to find out gender!!! Only 13 weeks so have a while.
Carly and Phil, proud parents of:
Alaina Rhoslyn {2.15.07}, Natalia Lorraine and Georgia Carol {7.31.08}, Penelope Julia {8.25.10} and
our newest addition Benjamin Philip {8.06.11}
I like the name Cooper, but Lorraine is far too feminine. I don't think it even has a male variation? Using Lorraine is like using Isabella for a boy. What about Cooper Raine? Or use Grandma's surname?
I like Cooper nn Coop. But have to agree that Lorraine even for a middle name. What about a variation.... Cooper Loren (like Loren Greene (yup I'm old lol))
I also have to agree on Lorraine being too feminine. Is there another middle name beginning with 'L' which you could use? What about Lloyd, Lawrence or Lee?
I have to say, the names does flow well, and Coop is a cute nn, but Lorraine is way too feminine. I don't even know if it even used to be used as a male name (like Courtney or Ashley or Aubrey, at least then it could have some historical meaning). I like the suggestion of "Raine" as a middle name instead because it's a bit less feminine than "Lorraine" to me and still gives off the vibe of being named for her. Or also consider Loren - a both male and female name and much more masculine sounding to me, but also still sounds like he is named for his grandmother. Plus, I usually don't worry about teasing when it comes to trendy names, but this being a total girl name, I can imagine him being embarrassed to tell kids at school his middle name or even as an adult for interviews or paperwork etc still being embarrassed about it.That's just my two cents though.

If he grew up hating his name the honor for his grandmother is kinda lost.
It is the meaning that matters. Also what if later you have a girl. You could use Lorraine then.
