So ladies I guess I’m just not that good at pronouncing names or understanding how they should be pronounced by their spelling.
A couple of months ago I posted a lot in here about issues with my SO in naming our soon to be baby girl. We only have 11 days till our scheduled c-section…
Well one day I sat him down with 2 websites and made him write out a list of names that he liked.
One of those names was
Dahlia
I read the name and thought it was deliah (like da- li-la)
Not (dahl-ya)
The other night I happened to run across a board discussing the name and how it was pronounced and I suggested it to SO. He then said that was one of the names I originally had suggested. I was like whoops.
Now I want this name. It’s causing issues again. A little bit of a spat last night.
Naming our kids has been one of the hardest things for us to do together and compromise. I have bad anxiety and it deeply stresses me out even more when I have to talk to him about things like this because then my heart will start to race and I will get so upset.
He doesn’t understand how his behavior affects me, all he said to me last night was. “just pick whatever name you want” and “ I’m sorry talking to me gives you anxiety”
So if you ladies were in my shoes what would you do?
1. Give the baby the name we had decided on a few weeks ago even though I’m not 100% on board
2. Or name baby the name that I want?
I feel like she could wind up with any name at this point because I want to wait to see her now to name her and pick the one that I feel is best.
I would just wait, take your list to the hospital and then choose.
I'm a little confused...have you found a different name other than dahlia you like. Or are you trying to decide between "da-Lee-uh' and 'DAHL-ya'?
We had the name Nadia picked out as the chosen name. We agreed that we wouldn't change it no matter what.. .whooops again.... because now I want too.
There are actually a couple names that I like a lot.
Avia (Ahh-Vee-Ahh)
Nadina
and I like both 'da-lee-uh' and 'dahl-ya' I want to make sure if this is the name that we spell it and pronounce it the way it should be.
I think it should be pronounced 'dahl-ya' and spelled dahlia
although if we were to stick with the our name theme the name we choose should be 3 sylabbes and end in a sound. Which dahlia doesn't.
our other kids names are
Karena (mine)
vanessa (his)
Elaina (his)
Melina (ours)
My daughter's name is Delia. We pronounce it dee-lee-uh. All the kids pronounce it the way we tell them, but all the adults (including Grandparents) pronounce it deel-ya. And some say delilah. I have the feeling the same thing would happen with Dahlia.

That was exactly the issue I thought we would have. Older people would have problems pronouncing the name but younger people wouldn't
well it doesn't matter it's off the table now.
Yesterday SO suggested
Aria and he says he still likes Joanna.
So basically it's up to me to choose between
Joanna (joey would be nm)
Nadia (dia would be nm)
Aria (r-ee would be nm)
I don't know which one to choose in a way I like them all but I also hate having names be popular. It looks likes Joanna was popular back in the 80's and it does kind of remind me of an 80's name
Nadia is pretty, but is it to much for a girl growing up.
Aria I think is beautiful but I worry about people mispronouncing it as well.
Aria: I think with the latest ABC Family hit show Pretty Little Liars you aren't going to have to worry about people saying Aria wrong, however, in that since the name is becomeing more popular now because of the show.
Nadia: It's not really my style, but I don't think it's a very common name so you would be okay in that sense
Joanna: I think is beautiful I love the nn Joey as well, but it also given her a professional name for when she is older and can decide if she wants to stay with Joey. It's also a name that isn't very popular at this time. There probably wouldn't be alot of them in her class once she goes to school.
My favorite is Nadia. I remember you posting before, and I liked it then, & still do. A dahlia is a flower, so you may be surprised that people do recognize it & pronounce it properly (dahl-ya). Either way, you have nice names to choose from. If nothing is definately striking you yet, wait til you see her & hopefully then you will know what suits her best.
I haven't told SO my final decision because I probably won't 100% decide until she is here. However; I am leaning more towards Nadia, it's less poplular then Aria (which is rising in crazy numbers the past couple of years) and the name Nadia sounds good with the few mn's I've picked out.
I'm pretty sure I have Joanna off the table, but again not till I sign that birth cert will I decide for sure, lol.
Thanks for all of your input ladies, it has been so helpful!
I love that we can call her Dia, I think that's so cool
