What do you think of changing how a name is generally pronounced becasue you like it better another way?
For example, think of Ralph Fiennes the actor, he pronounces his name Rafe. Or spelling a name Maria but ronoucing it Mariah (like Mariah Carey).
I love the name Isla but like it better pronounced Ees-la than Eye-la. I know my daughter would always have to tell people how to pronounce her name, but is that such a big deal?

I don't like that because I think it would become a big pain for the child. Every time they start a new class or join a new group they will have to correct everyone there. I personally wouldn't like it if my parents put me in that position.

I agree, I am sure most people don't know the correct pronunciation anyways,,,,,
with a name thats spelled that way you are going to have to correct people no matter what way you pronounce it!

I think if you want to pronounce it that way, go for it!

Purposely missprouncing a name ruins the history and beauty of a name. I love the name Isla, but only with the correct pronunciation, Eye-lah. Ees-lah just sounds awkward and incorrect. And, I don't think it's hard to figure out how to pronunce, when I showed the name to friends and family members, they all knew how to pronounce it corretly.

I agree with you somewhat, because it does completely change the name. But I don't think it would be incorrect, just different - for example Isla is also island in spanish, so many people would read and pronounce it that way, like in the Madonna song La Isla Bonita. But no, it wouldn't be the Scottish name Isla from the name of the river in Perthshire anymore.

I am still undecided. I love the name as it is spelled, and the Eye-lah pronounciation is growing on me, just still thinking about the other way.

3 more months to settle on something!

I agree, pronounce it how YOU want it!!
And Ees-la and Eye-la both make sense, it's not a completely weird pronounciation.
I think it's a really beautiful name either way!! (=

And the "Rafe" thing is European... maybe just England, I think? I did a project on a composer named Ralph Vaughan Williams once and thats how he pronounces his name, too.
