How do you feel about people who are named So and So Jr.? Or those that are called by their initials rather than their first name. AJ, CJ, etc.

Personally, I don't have a problem with Jr. but DH has ruled out naming our son Nicholas because he doesn't want him to be called Nick Jr. like the kids channel.

Also, what if the child has the same 1st name as father but not the same middle name...technically then he isn't Jr. right?

I don't mind initial nicknames at all.
As for Jr, I think it is fine thing to do but I would prefer to not call the person <first name> Jr... I like it better when they have a nickname that is different from the father's name.
Not sure if they have to share the same middle name to technically be a Jr... probably.

I would never do it,, I am a Jr. Mine and my mothers name are both Kathy. . . .and I hated it growing up. Jim's dad and him have the same name as well, and he hated it.
It is junior if you only have the same first name,,,, it is I, II, III when you have the same first and middle name

I don't like the idea of JR at all .. I do like TJ, AJ, etc.

I don't think the child is technically a JR unless he has his father's FULL name .

A Junior is a son with the same name as his father. The name must be exactly the same, including middle name, the father must be living, and it only applies to the father and son, not a grandfather or uncle etc.

A Junior is also a II, but you don't usually see that used, most people just use the numerals for III or more.
If a child has the same name of ANY close relative, grandfather, uncle etc, then II and so on applies, just not Jr.

If hubby had a name I wanted to name my child I would use it, so he would technically be a junior but I would never refer to him as Junior, I don't like that. I would give him another nickname or use his middle name, I don't care for "Junior" as a name. I don't mind initials as long as they flow well.

I want to name our next (if its a boy) Ryan Jr. (R.J), for two reasons. Because its a way to honor his dad, and because I LOVE the name Ryan.

Plus the NN R.J is really cute.
