[Maverick] for short?

My husband wants to call him Rex (it was his 2nd name choice for this baby, after our favorite football player)

I have Maverick nn Mack on my long list. I won't ever use it but I love it!

Rex doesn't seem to fit for me but nn's can be anything.

In my mind, Rick is the only nn that makes sense.

Mav...

I can see Rex from the second syllable. Like it MUCH better than Rick, but I also love Mav I think either would be acceptable!

Mav or Mack, probably. I always find I tend toward the first letter for a nickname.

I do have a cousin whose son is Maddex. But they call him Max. Which at first I was like "huh?" But it really came easily and we all call him both. So even an unexpected name, when used often enough, will probably start to come easily. But it just won't be what other people naturally gravitate to, so you'll prolly have to push it a bit at first (similar to how we are avidly avoiding Josie by calling her Jo all the time, similar idea).

I love Maverick, my s/o not so much. I agree with Mav, but he's your son so you can really nn him whatever you please.
