Isla

(Pron. Eye-La). Do you think most people know how to pronounce this? I did not until recently, then it has been growing on me, but I am concerned about the mispronuncation thing her whole life.

Thanks!

I think most people will know how to say it, it looks like Island minus the -nd. It might stump some people but I think you'll be ok if you use it!

I like it. You will have problems with most names and pronounciations so I wouldn't let that deter you from a name that you like.

Thanks! The reason I really started liking it was that my DH and I have been completely opposite on names and I suggested it thinking this would be one he would HATE and his response was "not too bad!". I was VERY suprised, and it seemed not his style, so now I'm wondering... I tend to like cute, short names that end in -y or -la (lily, lila, etc.)

Thanks for your help! If people like the sound of the name or the name itself is more important to me than spelling.

I thought it was pronounced IZ-LAH until I read the rest of your post. I think that she will have to correct people for her whole life BUT that is not a big deal--I have a last name that NO ONE can pronounce & I don't mind having to tell people how to spell and say it. I

f you like the name the most of all other names, you should use it. It is cool to have a unique name.

That's what we (currently) plan to call our baby girl due in October. We are going to pronounce it Isz-la. Sort of like Isabelle, but softer, not a hard z sound. I took a poll in my DDC to see how others would pronounce it, the results were pretty divided so we decided anyhting goes If you are interested in the results click here: http://www.justmommies.com/boards/index.ph...=291559&hl=isla

I didn't know how to pronounce it the way you are. I said it "Is-Lah". But, there are a lot of names that some people don't know how to say. If you like it, use it.
