So hubby and I were talking the other day with his brother/wife who are expecting and we were discussing names. In the past, one girl name hubby and I both agreed we loved was Elliott. It was to be paired with Caroline after his mother. Obviously, when it came down to it, we picked a different girl name for our daughter. So in this discussion I said that we had no clue what we might name another little girl, that Elliott didn't really fit with our other names very well. And DH piped up that he still wanted to use it. I said that I felt it was really out of sync with Josephine for a name choice. But he said it didn't really matter, since it was still a name we both liked.

So, my question is...do YOU think it sounds weird with our other kids? Or do you think it's fine and we should just keep it since nothing else is really striking my fancy? (BTW: not pregnant, no plans to be as of now). For those on forum runner, kids names are Liam, Kieran, and Josephine.

I think if it were going to be used as a boy Elliott would fit nicely with your kids, but as a girls name, i agree with you, it doesnt really sound like a name youd expect to see on a sister to Josephine. Personally, I would keep looking and find something that is a similar style to Josephine. That being said, if its the only name you both like enough to use, or if you think you would regret not naming her Elliott (should you have another girl) then it certainly isnt the strangest sib set by any means

side note... would you call her Elle/Ellie on a day to day basis, because i think Jo and Ellie are cute names for sisters

If Elliot was for a boy I think it would fit, but not for a girl. I'd keep looking for a name to fit better.

Liam, Kieran, Josephine (Jo) and Alexandra (Alex) would be cute.

^^Haha. I love Alexandra. But my brother is Alexander (Alex) and it would be weird.

I guess our hunt will continue. We prolly would call her Ellie 98% of the time. But I don't know if I could get by it, ya know? Just feeling like it didn't fit.

I think Josephine (Jo) and Elliot (Ellie) are really pretty cute together. I could see how they dont quite match in style but I can also see why you guys would like both names because in a way they do match. At least to me

I agree with you. If you're going for style, I wouldn't say Elliott fits for a girl or a boy, with your current kids' names. Your son's names seem more contemporary, while your daughter's name sounds very traditional classic.

I think it goes fine with your sibset. But I'm the rarity on this forum and don't get the whole matchy sibset thing. 99% of their lives they will be individual not a set of 4. Pick the name you like & go with it!

I think it would work just fine! Elliot is really pretty for a girl, I'd never considered it a girl name before.

I don't really feel that names need to be cohesive, they should reflect each individual and its unimportant what other people in the family are named. Our son is named Oz so people keep asking me if we are trying to come up with another really unique name for a girl in keeping with it. In actuality we are considering very traditional female names for this baby.

Maybe look at other e names so that way you could still call her Ellie. like Elisandra, Elena, Elaine, Eliza. Something of that nature : ) I have to say that in the real world I dont think it will matter at all. My name is Alena and my sibs are Megan Zack and Brandon. I have never ever got a comment that my name didnt match and quite happy I didnt get stuck with a common preppy name like my brothers and sister.
