Ok...so I LOVE the way this name looks and it was my great grandmothers, but I prefer it to be pronounced "baya-triss". With the nn Bay. Do you think I can get away with this? I figure everyone has some explaining to do with their name. Even I do. "Katie, is that short for something?" "Nope, just Katie". But I was just wondering what everyone thinks.
"An angel in the book of life wrote down my my baby's birth, then whispered as she shut the book, he's too beautiful for earth."
I love family names. And I also think Beatrice is a great name. I do think you will always be correcting people, but I have to spell my name for everyone and it doesn't bother me to much, so I don't see it as a big deal. I do think I would make it phonetically correct, as Momtothe6th mentioned. I also think that no matter how you pronounce the main name (Bee or Bay), you could still use Bay as a nickname. Once established, it would stick around anyway. I've been pleasantly surprised that everyone uses the shortened version of my daughters name that we chose, since we were afraid folks would shorten it to one we didn't like (Josie instead of Jo).
