Hi Friends!

Yep! It's a Boy!!!

And we need help thinking of a boy's name because we are completely stumped.

Our families keep suggesting names that just sound too old-fashioned and ordinary like John or David. No offense to the Johns and Davids of the world, but we would like something a little more unique.

We want a name that isn't too traditional, but isn't too far fetched either. We would like a name that is cute when he's a little boy, but still mature sounding when he is a man. So let's hear your ideas. Thanks so much!!

Shelby

Here is where I am almost no help...lol. I love traditional names for the most part. My choices for boys are Anthony, Jonathan, and Benjamin. A lot of the ladies around here are great with the more unique names, so give it time. While you are waiting, you can give a look at the Baby names page on the JM website or check out the website at the bottom of my siggie. Good Luck in your search and keep us updated. Congrads on your baby boy.

You know, there's a website out there with a survey that evaluates for exactly the flavor you're looking for. I recommend it highly. Its under "Personality Profile"

Another idea worth trying to keep it unique but not outrageous - maybe try a combination of you and DH's name (Mary + David = Dari), or do an "updated" version of an honored family member
(Great Uncle Leopold = Leo, Grandfather Joseph = Jonas). Look also to heros or innovators you admire for inspiration (MLK, Jr = Luther, Alexander Graham Bell = Lex, Michael Jordan = Jordyn)

Good luck!

I had to do some searching to find this (maybe I'm a little slow! LOL) when I saw this recommended, but I found it! It is REALLY great, and pegged me perfectly! LOL AND gave a LOT of great options that were TOTALLY my taste!

WHen you get to the main page, click "Interactive features" and then "Find your Naming Profile".

THANKS for the recommendation MamaB

Oh, I so agree!! I loved this website!! It pegged me, too! I even liked the list of names that people don't like. I am a school teacher so I try to think of names that won't be made fun of easily and it made me rethink a couple of names I had been thinking of. I definitely found out some things that I hadn't thought of yet. he he!!

I don't know. It just doesn't strike me. I really like the name Preston for a boy and it sounds good with our last name, but my husband only thinks of the fat guy "Preston Lacie" from MTV's show "#####" when he hears it.

On the other hand, my husband's new name is "Charlie". I don't know. What do you think?

Thanks gals!!

I also have a hard time with boys names. My DH and I never agree.

My favorites are:

Carson
Logan
Nathan
Ethan
Mason (which one of my cousins stole)
Austin

Tip: Don't share names you like with friends or relatives unless you don't mind if they use them.
