My sister in law is expecting a baby girl, and they just sent us a letter last night telling us...

they are planning to name my niece "Italy"

Is it just me...or is this the most random name?? Or maybe it is around?? An7yone heard it before? Boy or girl? Do you like it??

I really don't

I really don't like it. There are some place names that I do like.... but this is definitely NOT one of them

Is Italy (the location) of significance to them?

To me place names are kind of like drink names. When I see girls named Margarita I assume the drink was somehow involved in her conception. When I see girls named Ireland I assume the parents are too lazy to look up a REAL Irish name, or if they're not even Irish, that she was conceived there/they met there/etc.

I have heard Italy before, but only in the birth announcements, and it was a little girl's middle name.

No, obviously, I don't like it!

I have not met anyone with this name but it's definitely not the worst name I've ever heard. As long as it's spelled correctly, I wouldn't mind it on someone else's child. To each their own.

Have they ever even been to Italy? I really can't imagine naming a child after a place I've never been.

if there is no heritage, and no specific connection to the place, its pretty random!!
