I just LOVE IT, but I'm not sure. Our last name begins with L, and I'm afraid Laurel L.... will sound like "Laura". I don't mind the name Laura at all, but it's not what I'm going for...

I much prefer Lauren. Laurel reminds me of that pair of the fat guy and the tall thin guy... ?

My name is Lauren and I don't like any of the LAUR names. People rarely mention them as being 80's trendy but they were. In my small school of 300 students there were 5 other Laurens, 2 Laurels, and a boy Laurence.

It was a very common middle name too. Moms thought they were being "original" with the middle name by branching out from Marie and Lynn but they weren't. When I meet girls my age they will either 1) be named Lauren or Laurel, 2) have Lauren or Laurel as their middle name, or 3) have a close relative named Lauren or Laurel who they feel obligated to tell me about.

Lauren is still in the top 100, too, and I'm not sure where Laurel is but it's pretty close. If meeting lots of people with the same name, same name as a middle name, or listening to everyone tell you about their relatives with that name will bother you, it's a definite no. If you absolutely love it and wouldn't mind everyone else loving it, too, it could be okay.

I'm a Lauren, and I prefer Lauren to Laurel or Laura..

and I think of a crown of laurel on the Olympian's heads...

it does mean victory..

I like it and it's a nice alternative to super popular Lauren. I was curious about it's rank so I looked it up on the SSA website. It was number 787 in 2005 so I don't think you have to worry about there being a lot of Laurel's out there!

Pretty--a bit too flowery for my taste though...

I think it is very pretty and a nice variation from the more popular Laura and Lauren. But I do think it would sound like Laura with an L last name.
