So I recently told some friends and family members that my favorite name for a girl is Lily. The first thing they all said was that it sounds too much like a nickname for something. Do you think Lily needs a full name, or is it ok on it's own? Also, which spelling do you prefer: Lily, Lilly, Lillie, others?

Thanks!

I dont think Lilly sounds like a nn, but I like Lillian and for short Lilly. Also I like the spelling Lilly the best out of the others.

I also think of Lily as a nickname. I like Lilias and Lilith for full names.

Now, show me the rule that says you can't give your child a short name without it being a nn?? Lily is adorable, and I do not think you should "ruin" it by having another name as her official name.

I totally don't think of Lily as a nn. I think it's a gorgeous name on it's own!

I don't think of the name Lily as a nickname if it is spelled Lily, like the flower. I really like it spelled this way!

I dislike Lily and Lilly, and especially dislike Lillie.
It could be it's own name, I just don't like it.

My DD was almost a Lilly. I like it spelled either Lilly or Lily but not with an "ie" at the end.
