I do agree that the two N's make it look less like the borough's name, and that two N's looks a lot more feminine.

But ultimately, it is the borough's name. So I really can't say I like it for a person. If I did have to use it I would keep the proper spelling for that reason, even though the two N's look more feminine.

I understand why you like the sound of it! The -yn ending is very popular, plus the K and L in the middle are definitely coming more in vogue as naming sounds. And of course the Br- beginning still sounds fresh and new, even though there are quite a few names with those.

I would like to suggest some alternatives though, since I do think the name belongs to the borough and the borough only.

What about another compound name (since Brook and Lynn are perfectly fine names on their own, this really is a compound name)? Examples: Bree-Lynn, Brooke-Anne, Braith-Lynn, Bran-Lee, etc. Pretty much any one-syllable B name for the first, and any one-syllable L name (or name ending in N) for the second.

There are also a few that sound similar to me but aren't New York boroughs. Those are Breckin, Braewyn, Bricen, and Bronwyn.

I also thought of the combination Briar-Lynn. I think that's pretty too, but it's more than two syllables so I wasn't sure if you'd like it.

NMSAA

But I do like the name Brooke.

And I like some of Lauren's alternatives... especially Bronwyn(which is a Welsh goddess) and Briar-Lynn (because I'm a "Sleeping Beauty" fan, lol).

I like the name and I think it has such a pretty sound, but I feel like it's become so over-used. I love Bronwyn.

Brooklynn really isn't my style, but if you and DH like it, that is all that matters.

I love this name! I especially like the double "n" at the end.

I used to like it more then I do now but I still think its a pretty name. I prefer it with two "n"s on a girl and just one on a boy.

Not a fan of Brooklyn (as a name) at all, sorry. But I Brooke. Very feminine, very underused today.
