I think it's just a city that people started naming their kids, girls and boys . I don't like it for either gender.

The only boy I have heard of named Brooklyn is Brooklyn Beckham, here it seems to be a girls name, probably because Brooke and Lynn are common girls name here.

I'm not a fan of it for either gender.

I love this as a boy name, it is one of my guilty pleasures... my husband doesn't like it for a boy, so we wouldn't use it. But we both kind of like it for a girl!

I'm okay with place names, this one is odd with the -lyn.
The place names I like are:

Milan & Berkeley both female.

I come from the UK too and it is definatly seen as a boys name! Although I prefer it in a girl cos of the lyn part.
