Dh and I had narrowed our girl's list to Hadley, Lucy, Phoebe, and Adelaide/Adeline (nickname Ada). But my SIL just called me to tell me they got a new puppy and named her Lucy! She had no idea that Lucy was on our name list. That really bums me out. It's funny - they got a new cat a year ago and named it Molly and that was another of my favorite girls names. Would it be weird to use Molly or Lucy since they have pets with those names? They do live in teh same city as us.
If Lucy (or Molly) ends up being your #1 favorite name that you love, then I would still use it if I were you. If Lucy was YOUR dog, I would say don't use it, but since it is someone else's, then it's not as big a deal - at least to me it isn't.
Tell SIL to quit using such cute names for her pets!
I would still use it. Did she Just get the dog? Like the last day or two? Are you and her pretty close? If so I would ask her to choose a different name for it. Of course if she has already had it for a wk or so it's probably already used to the name.

thanks ladies. my SIL and I are fairly close, but not close enough for me to ask her to change the dogs name. I told her that was what i wanted to name my next child (if its a girl) and she just laughed. They got hte puppy (A Westy) last week and she and the kids named it, so i don't think they'll change it.
