Do you think Isla (prn. eye-la) will be continually pronounced wrong if I ever decided to name a daughter this? I really love the name but I'm concerned about it. Also, I don't plan on having kids for a long time, so do you think the name will become more common (and therefore more recognizable) within the next 10 years or so?

Thanks!

Another way to spell it is Islah. Maybe that might help people with pronounciation?

I personally thought it was pronounced is-la. Like i know there's island but isabel is more in the name category and isla looks similar to that. I'm not really bad with grammar and english so i think that people would be continuously pronouncing it wrong. Also about it becoming more popular, i have no idea. I have never heard it. but definitely it would be easier for people to pronounce it right if it was common.

I thought it was proncounced ee-sla. Either way I think it's a pretty name. That actress who was in the movie Wedding Crashers is named that, which was where I heard it the first time. I like it.

I don't really think there will be a huge popularity boom with this name, just a hunch, but I've never heard it except on JM. It's a very pretty name! You will most likely have to correct pronunciation sometimes, but you have to do that with a lot of names... even fairly common ones sometimes!

I love this name we considered it for a girl... I really like old classics and this definitely falls in to that category. however the "old" names ARE becoming more trendy. I think it is really beautiful!

No matter how many times I've been told it's pronounced Eye-la, I always read it as Iz-la. Maybe consider a different spelling like Ayla, Ayela, or Iyela, to avoid that?

I dont think it would be mispronounced a lot, it could be tho, the name is definitely getting more and more popular so in about 10 years I think it would be like mispronouncing the name Brandon lol

I went to school with an Isla (eye-la) and she's the only one I've ever met (would be 26 or so now). Some people said her name wrong but it was no big deal, she just corrected them.

I love Isla, it's so gorgeous.

I think that it might be a little more well known in a few years, but I don't see it being very popular at all.

Its always pronounced eye-la to me but I'm Australian and the actress from the wedding crashers is from here and was on soaps for years and years.

Its a really pretty name, and I'm not sure if its getting more popular but I feel like I've seen it around more in the last month or so in birth announcements etc. You might love it for years then fall preggo and decide its not for you - thats what I did with my old faves, now I've got 4 1/2 weeks to think of some others!!

Isla is lovely, and I wouldn't change the spelling. If anyone needs correcting on pronunciation, they should only need to be corrected once. People don't mispronounce the word "island" as "ees-land" and it's similar enough that most people will be smart enough to figure out that it's eye-luh.
