So we found out we're having a girl and are so thrilled about it. Trying to come up with unusual name that starts with S. Selina and Selya are our favorites, what do you think about them?

Both are very pretty! I would worry that Selya would be mispronounced a lot though. Are you stuck on that spelling?

I'm not stuck on spelling at all... open for suggestions
Didnt even think about people mispronouncing it, until you asked, now I see that it could be pronounced as " silly-ya"... hehe... what would you suggest for different spelling?

I was looking at it and saying "Sell-ya" for some reason. I've never seen the name before; how about Seliya, Saleah, Seleah, Saliya.....I'll try to think of more.

To get that pronunciation of Selya you could try Seleah or Saleah. But instead of that maybe Sylvia or Celia? They sound pretty close but are well-known, so they would be less likely to be mispronounced. There's also Sela, which is less well-known but pretty straightforward as far as spelling and pronunciation go.

Selina I would spell Selena instead. The singer Selena is still very well-known, especially since a lot of people have seen the movie about her life. You'd probably get the E misspelling a lot anyway because people are familiar with her name, and it's just as beautiful.

I think Selena is very pretty. I'd love to meet a little girl named Selena.

I was pronouncing Selya (Sell-Ya), but when its spelled Seleah, I think its really pretty! I like Selena too. But my favourite S name would have to be Sienna

Hi and welcome to the baby names boards! I also thought Selya was pronounced Sell-ya. My favorite S name is Selah. Pronounced Say-Lah. I love that name! It means to pause and reflect. I do like the way you pronounce Selya, but I would definitely recommend changing the spelling. Selina, for some reason, does not sound that uncommon to me.
