Owen?

I didn't even realize anyone was using it until I decided I loved it and was looking up stuff. Is this one of the new "trendy" names? I don't know anyone with it so I don't think the popularity is an issue where I live but I was just wondering.

I've only heard of one person with this name and he is an older guy. I like it a lot and don't think it's too common..at least where i live...

I'm not sure if it's trendy or not... but I've never met anyone in person who was named this or named their son this. However, my second son's middle name will be Owain (from Welsh mythology), and that's pretty close...

I hear a lot of people saying they love this name but I've never actually met an Owen or anybody who even knew an Owen...

No, it's not really trendy (I think trendy is very different from "popular"), but it is popular. People are really into "fresh classics" for girls. Think about the Ava/Emma/Olivia/Isabella explosion. Owen kind of fits into the same category for boys ... it seems "old-fashioned" to a lot of people without being really stuffy or ugly like, say, Hubert.

Any boys' name that's two syllables, sounds vaguely old-fashioned to some people, and ends in -en/-on/-an, is probably either popular or becoming more popular. Biblical names are very big too.

The only Owen I know is in his 60's, but most couples I know (IRL) that's having babies is considering it on some level. Some are planning to name their babies this if they have boys, some never would and just kind of like it, but it's on all their lists regardless.

I like the name but to avoid an explosion of popularity I'd go with Ewan (you-an) instead.

I hear that it's a popular name but only know one child and one adult named Owen. So maybe it just isn't popular in my area. I think it's a really cute name.

Owen is one of those names that you hear bandied about a lot, but it's not SOOO popular that he's definitely going to be one of several Owen's in his class. You could see a sudden explosion of this name in the next year, as it is ripe for popularity as other PP's have pointed out, but I would not bet on that. I think you'd be fairly safe with this name.

p.s. I like it.

I still love it...even though it kinda is rhymy with our last name (the OWen and BOW...)but I think we are going with it. When I named my son Landen I had never even heard of it until A Walk to Remember came out. NO ONE had it. Now I know several other kids..including two GIRLS...atleast they are all atleast a year younger so they will not be in his classes most likely.
I just hope the same thing doesn't happen again. And if it does, oh well I suppose!

I like Owen, and have only met one person with this name. He was in his teens. Some more similar names are Ian, Ivan and Ioan.
