It seems like a lot of people that post here like longer first names. What are your thoughts?

They don't have to be LONG (I just happen to prefer longer names) as long as there are several decent nickname possibilities.

I don't like my name and would love to be called something else. But what else is there? My sister has my middle name, so that's out. Laur, Lala, and Ren all sound kind of silly and kiddish (Lala and Ren definitely do). What else is there?

Take Margaret for example. There are so many nicknames for Margaret! Meg, Maggie, Maisie, Daisy, Peggy, Peg, Greta ... and there are more. She could choose ANY of them, change as she grows older, whatever fits. Or she could just be Margaret.

If there was a shorter name I liked that also had those kinds of possibilities, that would stay on my list too.

For me it depends on the name, I generally prefer names that, long or not, have a few nickname possibilities like Alexandra (Alex, Lexi, Xandra, Sasha) and even Maeve (Mae, Eve) but there are a few exceptions like Eve and Brynn which aren't long and don't have nicknames (with the exception of Evie)
