WDYT of Rex for a boy's name?

It's on my list of potential names if ever there is another boy.

I agree with Melissa, makes me think of T-Rex. I also know a few people who have dogs/cats named Rex. I think it could be a cute nickname but I wouldn't personally use is as a given name.

I can only think of T-Rex or an animals name..I have a hard time seeing it as a FN on a child.

BTW, I love your siggie!

Well, I think of either a dog's name or Rex Grossman, the quarterback for the Bears (former Gator). When I first heard his name, my first impression was that it's an odd name. Now that I root him on, it's not so bad, but I still think of it as a name for an animal.

Maybe that's why the name started growing on me (I'm from Chicago) )

I don't want to give my kid a dog's name.

Thanks for the opinions.

It's my dad's name. Whenever I tell my friends (especially male friends) that's his name most of the responses are "wow, that is such a cool name!" So it's worked well for him. His full name is Rexford. My grandma was trying to be creative. She didn't think Rex was enough and while they were driving to the hospital to have him they stopped on Bradford St. So she came up with Rexford! Haha, silly grandma!

I think its missing something, it just seems to short for me. I don't really care for it, but I don't think its horrible.

That's a great story! I thought you were going to say because she was driving to the hospital in a Ford.
I thought it was a cool, manly name too. And I might even nickname him T-Rex.

Its not terrible but its not something i would consider either.

I went to high school with a boy named Rex!

You know, nobody EVER mentioned it being a dog's name. It was used as such a lot in cartoons and stuff that our generation saw growing up, but when I heard it on a real person, it didn't occur to me that it was the same name. It just sounded cool. And now that I watch cartoons with my nephew, I never see Rex used as the dog's name anymore ... so I don't think a boy his age would have many problems with that from friends. I do know a few people IRL with dogs named Rex but I also know three dogs named Max and four named Jack, and people name little boys Max and Jack right and left.

I like it, and I don't think it would hurt him any.

I think it's very cute. I have a friend that has the nickname Rex (that's he goes by 100% of the time) and his given name is Reginald. I'm not sure if it's a common nickname but I'm just throwing it out there.

Rex is traditionally a nickname for Reginald. I do think it's short, and it reminds me of the dinosaur, but as a nickname, it isn't bad.
