It's a color and while it may be cute, I don't think it makes a good name for a person. It doesn't age very well, and it's a little bit stripper-ish.

I don't know that I like it personally. Maybe it's not that. I just immediately thought "Scrawny Tawny". I would fear for the child's self-esteem I guess.

Ditto. It also sounds dated to me.

Io'm biased b/c I knew a girl named Tawny and no one really liked her... in fact, I wouldn't be surprised if she grew up to be a stripper. I'm not wild about the name, sorry.

Agree with the girls above... not really fond! I had a friend named "Kandi"... yes that was her TRUE GIVEN NAME and she never went on to be a stripper but always laughed about that being her destiny because of her name!

I think its a cute nickname. It kinda feels like its missing something to be a full name though.

My mom was going to name my little sister Tawny, as a play off of her name, which is Tonya... but she decided on Tory instead (which is a play off of my uncle's name: Troy). If my mom ever had another girl, she probably would have been named Tawny.

I'm not huge on it, but I don't hate it. I also agree with A.L.C.

Sorry, but the first thing that popped into my mind was that Golden Book, "Tawny Scrawny Lion." It just doesn't seem like a name to me.
