Hello everyone!

I have my baby boy name, but have been struggling with my girl name.

Finally, just the other day during a conversation about a tv show episode once watched, and it hit me! The show for anyone who knows it is Arrested Development. The name is Maeby. Pronounced "maybe".

First is the argument I got into with friends and relatives about the spelling. Mae is supposed to be the name, and the nickname is Maeby. However, I have no plans of ever calling my child Mae, so I will put Maeby on the birth cert. buuuuut, some people want the spellings: Maybie, Maybi, Mabie, Maebi, Maybe, Maebee... etc...

I am pretty well stuck on Maeby, what are your opinions? Does anyone think a different spelling makes more sense, if so, why?

Now, going with Maeby... any ideas on a middle name? We had discussed Sofia, and like it very much, but it and any other name we seem to come up with always ends up sounding like "Maybe Sofia...?" Like someone discussing Sofia... KWIM?

LOL! We want this name, but also don't want to be hated by our baby girl in the future. This is also why we would like a more common name for the middle name, so if she hates us, she can go by that name! Just thinking of the future!

---------------------------------------------------------------

BTW, baby boy name is Kegan Alexander!

I think it's okay... I think I'd prefer May or Maelyn or something along those lines a little better. I just think the association with what the word means will be too strong.

I agree...I can see a girl named Maeby getting teased in school. I'd prefer something like Maeve or Maelyn. This is just my opinion however, if Maeby is the name you want go for it! I prefer this spelling of the name as well. I also like the idea of a more common name as the middle, something like Sophia, Isabel, Amelia, Olivia or Sara.

Well, if you're set on Maeby, I'd go with something simple and classic for the middle name. I think something like Maeby Elizabeth would be best. Elizabeth is a well-known name, common, and has LOTS of nicknames for her to choose from if she wants to go by something besides Maeby.

I think Maeby is kind of cute for a little girl, not so much for an adult. I would like it a lot if it was a nickname for something. It would be an adorable nickname.

Now that I think of nicknames, what about something like May Beatrice Lastname? You could call her Maybe from that, and if she doesn't like it, she'd have two names to fall back on instead of just one. I think that has a lot of potential and would work out better if she doesn't like Maeby. And it looks very professional, for business cards and diplomas and such. Really, any name that starts with B would work ... May Bethany, May Brooklyn, whatever!

I heard somewhere that they call her Maeby on the show because her mother isn't sure who her father is, and "maybe" it's the guy on the show that's suppose to be her father.

I think using Maeby as a name is a little odd just because the word maybe is used so much and it just sounds strange as a name, but that's just my opinion. Mae is a nice name that she could fall back on when she got older and didn't want to have such a childish sounding name. You could still call her Maeby, but give her a more proper name for when she gets older.

I heard that too !

It's nmsaa .. If you are set on it, than I think you should use it ! It's your child .. But I know that she will definitely be teased in school.

I would re-think it - i see some serious teasing potential with that name. What about Mabel and you coudl call her Maeby as a nn at home? I also like Maeve.

I think the association with the word "maybe" is way too strong. Plus, it sounds like a nickname to me, not a full name... it feels incomplete. What about using a name like Mabel and using Mabie or something like that as a nickname?

I just saw someone else recommend Mabel too. And I agree with her, Maeve is a lovely alternative as well.

I like Lauren's idea of using Mae for the fn and a B mn. Maeby is a very cute nn but I don't think it is full fn material.

i dont think it would age well and I think an adult with the name Maeby would get strange looks, not to mention the childhood problems

I think it sounds like "maybe we wanted you, maybe we didnt", and I know thats not the case! I know the TV show sparked an interesting idea for a name, but I wouldnt use it as the official name on the BC, and would use it as a nickname

Maeve, Mabry, Mabel, Maubry, any of those would do fine with a B middle name
