DH and I have already decided on the first names for a boy or girl ...months before we found out we were pregnant. The only trouble I'm having now is deciding a middle name ...well, really only if it's a girl.

The boy's name will be Jaiden Thomas ...Thomas was my grandfather's middle name and because he was such a great man, I want to honor him by passing on his name. Jaiden was something DH mentioned after he'd told me about his tradition of naming his children with a J name ...and I like it (despite it's popularity).

As for the girl's name ...I had originally wanted Jiana Alexis. Jiana has just been a name I used for years when I misspelled a character's name in Warcraft (Jaina Proudmoore) to use as a screenname ...and now I just absolutely love it.

I had decided on Alexis because I met so many girls in my job as an after school counselor and preschool teacher who were absolute darlings. Only reason I didn't choose it as a first name was because it was so common (at least 9 or 10 Alexis' in my 5 years of working with kids). But Alexis is also one of DH's son's middle names ...and I kind of like that 'bond' but at the same time wish for her to have something different.

But after some thought ...I came up with using DH's mother's name (Kathryn) because she was a very important woman to him and he was devastated when he lost her. And I've also thought of combining it with part of my mom's name (Anne ~ from Joanne) so that my mother is honored as well since she is so important to me. So ...Jiana Kathryn or Jiana Kathryn Anne.

The only "problem" I have with Kathryn is its conflict with our last name, which also has a K sound to start. DH had long ago talked of changing his name to his nom de plume, which would have a N sound ...and could work with Kathryn. lol So I guess usage of that combination will depend on our last name. lol

Lastly, DH and I had discussed using Rachyl as a middle name if we had twins (Raza would be used for the other child ...the names come from characters in his book who are twins), but now that I've heard it with Jiana ...I really like it! lol Jiana Rachyl

All these worries and discussions will be moot if it's a boy. lol But I'd like to get your opinions on the combinations!! So, to summarize (and remember the last name will either have a K or N sound)!!

Jiana Alexis
Jiana Kathryn
Jiana Kathryn Anne
Jiana Rachyl

What about using Alexis AND Kathryn.. some are so opposed to using multiple middle names, but I like it
to get around the double K, what about

Jiana Kathryn Alexis K-last name

I also like Jiana Kathryn Ann for honoring both the mothers. I think its more important if you really want to use a name of honor

Hmmm...my vote is going to go to Jiana Kathryn. Jiana already kind of has the "anne" association with "ana" and I don't think the K sound in the last name will be too conflicting. However it may be a problem if the last name starts with an n because it would be a lot of n sounds.

Good luck!

I think honoring people you love is great, so I'd do the double middle name ... Kathryn Anne.
