Do you like Kate on its own, or as a nickname?

For those of you who like Kate on its own, do you prefer it spelled Kate or a different way?

I think its classic, strong yet still feminine, and I like this spelling. I also like it as a shortening of Katherine, but like Kate better. I dont like Katy/Kady

I like it as a nickname. If you use it as on its own, she'd have to write Kate on her job applications and other things where people are supposed to their full names, and it will look informal. Most Kates have full names, so when people see it, they will assume it is a nickname, and that she just didn't know she was supposed to use her full name. That kind of thing can affect whether or not a person is hired for a job and whether or not they're taken seriously by other adults.

I don't see the point of using a nickname as a full name. If you put Katherine on the birth certificate, and then call her Kate from the moment she's born, everyone else will call her Kate. No one is going to insist on calling her Katherine just because it's her full name, but she'd have a full name for formal situations.

If you don't like Katherine/Catherine, it could also be short for Kathleen, Katerina, or Katrina.

I like Kate a lot, it's really classy and sweet. I think I'd prefer it as a nickname, though.

I get called Kate by my family and friends and my full name is Katherine. I always advice people use full names and then call them by the prefered nickname. If you use Katherine/Katrina you can use the nicknames Kate, Katie/Katy, Kat, Kath, Kathy, Kaye.

I actually love this name, I prefer it for a middle name or a nn.

Kate is ok, I get called it sometimes as a nn.

My name is Katie, just Katie and I have never had anyone ask me if it was a nn and never had problems getting a job so I disagree with that, I am personally glad that I got named what I get called, seems simpler to me.

I like it more as a nn.

I considered using it as Kaia's nn but my friends DD is Katie so I wanted something different.

I like Kate best on its own actually, I think its cute and versatile (could work on a girly girl or a tomboy, a lawyer or an actress). I really like Cady (prn KAY-dee as opposed to Katie (Kay-tee)) too.
