It's nice but a little old fashioned for my taste. I have an older aunt named this.

I don't think Jo, Joey, etc. work since it doens't have that sound in it... it's pronounced yo-hah-na, not joe-hannah.

ETA- I would worry about people mispronouncing it and confusing it with Joanna.

I was pronouncing it Jo-hanna or Jo-hawna, not yo-han-na. ;-) I like Jo-hanna/Jo-hawna more than Joanna too ;-)

So... most people pronounce it with a J like in Joanna or Josephine? I still like the name, but not if it's going to be mispronounced.

Would you pronounce Johann or Johannes with that J sound too?

I have only ever heard it pronounced with a J. I also like it pronounced yo-hah-na. It's beautiful that way. But for me I would say it with a J sound because both DH and I have J names. So i think we will go with all J sounding names. We also like Jocelin and Jace

My friend named her little boy Johannes and She said it with a J also I like it both ways really.
