I have a friend that has a headache she can't get rid of. She is on day 9 of it. Anyone have any remedies that might help her get some relief? Thanks for any advice.

I wonder if it's seasonal/allergy related. Has she tried any allergy type meds? Actifed and Excedrin together work well for me.

I've heard that it is related to or caused by the increased estrogen.

I get headaches like that too, and the only relief is to sleep it off (I get around an hour of no headache when I wake up).

Through things I have worked out myself, as in when I notice them starting what I have eaten or done, they come about after I eat anything with a high level of MSG - chicken salt, chinese food, two minute noodles, minced garlic from a jar, gravy - MSG is a preservative so it's in a lot of things. I try not to eat anything that has high levels of it and it helps.

Sometimes mine are also stress induced.

Other days my headaches just arrive for no apparent reason. Short of taking pain killers (neurofen zavance is magic for me, nothing else seems to work), there's nothing that really helps me. Good luck to your friend though! Just tell her to keep an eye on what she is eating, or perhaps may even need glasses? (or new lenses if she already has them?), I've heard that can be a major issue too!

It depends on the cause. You can get a headache for any of the reasons mentioned above and many others. I often get them from my spinal alignment being out of whack. A quick trip to the chiropractor is the only thing that helps those. Painkillers won't even touch them. I've also gotten them from allergies, caffeine withdrawal, and hormonal changes. The allergies require something to treat the allergies as well as the pain meds. The hormonal ones don't usually need more then pain meds. Caffeine withdrawal just requires a good dose of Pepsi (or the caffeine source of your choice). My DH gets them because of his blood pressure. It's a sure fire sign that he's skipped his meds. I'd recommend double checking any of those things that you can and going to see a doctor to check the ones you can't.

Ive been battling headaches since the 5th grade which were migraines then. I just had the same problem this past week and just got rid of it yesterday. I agree with that everyone else is saying about stress, hormones, caffeine, diet. She needs to just try pinpointing each thing until one of them relieves it, unless it is hormones! She should also try a hot tea, I am not sure what tea is good for headaches, I usually just drink green tea, chamomile, or peppermint bc they are just soothing and relaxing to me.
