I am not really sure where to go with this so I thought I would at least ask some questions in hopes that someone will be able to shed some light on things. My name is Jenn. First off I want to start by saying that I have a 2 year old daughter and since she was born I have never had my cycle on the target of when I thought I was supposed to have it (like a 28 day cycle--so I guess it was no more than a 35 day cycle). At any rate...I am under tons of stress...between mommy, student, navy wife, other responsibilities (which I feel to be the only one doing), and then of course normal stressful situations.

So we recently moved to Hawaii back in July...for starters I began this kick where outside of the being upset that my husband was not the best for my emotions I stopped wanting to be intimate with him. Yes I believe that some of it had to do with the way he acted..other parts of me felt that it was from having kids and my having no alone time, but there was that gut feeling that something was just not 100% right. I just had NO desire what so ever. It was not as if I had a desire and did things by myself...I literally had NO desire what so ever. Either way that has continued. Only now there is not just the lack of desire. In Dec. I started having REALLY irregular periods. They went from being between 28-35 days each month to not having one at all. I had a cycle around Dec. 5th, then again on Feb. 24th, and then just recently on April 21st. Once again I could say that the stress has gotten to me causing me to have no cycle or for the cycle to be delayed. Had I only skipped the one month then I would not be concerned, but to have a cycle only twice since December is a bit alarming. Also, when I bleed I tend to be a bit confused about the color of it (if that helps out). Outside of the stuff I just mentioned I have noticed that I have small tiny little hair follicles on my chest. Like I will be showering and feel something rough only to look down and notice a small hair. Since it is blond it is a bit difficult to see. These hairs are also coming out above my lip. My head has a massive dry scalp and I use tee tree shampoo once a week (I hate using it anymore then that). I am excessively irritated with people, lack the energy, and all around just am tired to a point where I feel like some days I am dragging.

I went in and voiced my concern to my doctor. They did a pap and so far all that was done came back okay. The only thing we are waiting on is cancer tests. The bacteria came back fine, viral came back fine, no anemia, no STI's, and they drew blood and said that my thyroid is fine as well. Just recently they tested me for PCOS.

First off the doctor did not seem to know her stuff because she said that considering I am 32 that it is hard to have not detected it by now, and if I had kids even harder. I did read something somewhere though that stated that sometimes since there are NO cysts that it can go undetected for a longggggggg time and that yes it was generally found in younger adults. Oh wait..I have other stuff. I have been breaking out ..more on my back then anywhere but on my face too (and I am not a big acne person), and I crave junk alot. I am not eating that much (normal for me--so not a new thing) and I gain no weight yet lose none either. Can someone point me in the right direction? Do you think that I have PCOS. I am frightened about what I am going to learn considering that all my other tests came back fine. The only one we are waiting on is now PCOS and cancers. Any help would be appreciated.

I always forget to check this board
That was my first thought when you mentioned the irregular cycles and hair issues. Since it's been awhile, what did the results show?

Also, come back to Preschoolers!!!!

PCOS can be hard to detect, because not everyone presents with the same symptoms. Not everyone has visible cysts on the ovaries. Or some have cysts, but they are not big enough to see with an abdominal U/S, only a transvaginal one. Insulin resistance is one of the underlying causes of PCOS, so a lot can be done to manage it with diet. Detailed CM charting can actually be used to help diagnose PCOS, because the CM pattern shows exactly what the hormones are doing throughout the cycle. There are some typical patterns that tend to show up with PCOS when charting.

Yep, I agree with Valerie, your symptoms are pretty classic PCOS symptoms. And the hair and irregular periods and acne had me thinking that before you ever siad anything about it. It's typically managable with birth control pills, diet, and sometimes a medication called Metformin (which is actually used for diabetics).

If the doc you went to wasn't an actual OB/GYN, I would recommend you go to one. I know it can be harder with the military sometimes (been there done that), but typically you can get it pushed through to see a civilian specialist.

Good luck!
