My husband was diagnosed the day before Good Friday of this year with testicular cancer. On Good Friday he had his left testicle removed. When we followed up with the urologist a couple days later he said it was definitely testicular cancer and he sent us to follow up with an oncologist. After my hubs got out of surgery the urologist ordered a ct scan of his abdomen which showed a slight enlargement of the lymph nodes by his kidneys. He also had a chest x-ray done which showed nothing, no spots or lesions. The whole month of May we have been meeting with our oncologist about every seven to ten days for blood work. So yesterday (Friday)we saw the oncologist and my husbands numbers that had been going down were trending back up, his beta hcg was at zero and it is now 12.5 and his alpha fetal protein level went all the way down to 30 and it is hanging out there (we were hoping for it to be below 15 to be considered normal). So he had more lab work done yesterday (Friday) and we have to call on Thursday to find out what those results will be. But the oncologist really prepped us for the worse and said that he will prolly start chemo the second full week of June. We were ttc when we found out that the has testicular cancer. So those plans are on hold as we prepare to bank some of his sperm at fertility clinic/sperm bank. Just feeling so lost, overwhelmed, and like my world has been turned upside down!! My husband is a firefighter and paramedic so this is really going to slow him down. I'm a nurse so I kinda know what is going to happen and what to brace for but it is so different when this is your loved one and not just a patient in the hospital. Just wanted to introduce myself as Sarah Jane. My husband's name is RJ and our two year old son's name is Russell (although he likes to call himself Sussell).
