Hi ladies! It's been so quiet here lately, so I was wondering how everyone is?
Kaylie had a horrible week. Remember how she was throwing up really bad after her chemo? It turned out that was caused from a small bowel obstruction. So, they put a tube down her nose to suction the yucky stuff out of her tummy and they were telling me she would likely need surgery. But right before the surgeon came in to tell us that he was going to schedule the prcedure, she pooped. Which meant the obstruction was resolving on its own. She still has the tube in her nose for the rest of today. If she makes through today without throwing up, she will get to eat and then get the tube out. The tube has been there for 8 days.
While they were doing a CT of her tummy to see why she was throwing up they found 2 lesions on her liver. The doctor told me it could be a recurrence of the leukemia or a fungal infection. If it was leukemia, her prognosis would not be very good. So, she had a liver biopsy 2 days ago and it showed that there were no malignant cells there. It is most likely a fungal infection but she isn't showing any of the normal symptoms that she should for that. The other option is that her liver was just made with 2 bumps on it and she won't neep treatment. The doctor is speaking with the radiologist today so they can figure out exactly what it is. I'm just thankful it wasn't a relapse.
It sounds like poor Kaylie has had a long trying week. I am very relieved to hear to hear her biopsy came back with no show of malignant cells, that is wonderful news. I hope her oncologist can figure out what is on her liver, and I pray it is nothing.
My daughter had twice weekly scans of her bowels, while on treatment, as she had so many problems with it. Any sign of being able to go home for the holiday for you two?
She should get to go home in a few days. She had another ultrasound of her liver today. The doctor is going to review it again to make sure there is no change. It looks like her liver just has some spots on it that she was born with. So, if there is no change in that and she starts eating on her own, she can go home for 2 days.
Then, of course, it is back to the hospital for more chemo. Hopefully it won't be another long stay though!
Oh goodness ... sounds like you guys have had a rough week! I am so glad to hear that there is no evidence of it being malignant. We continue to pray for Kaylie and hope you get to go home at least for the 2 days.
