I was seeing 1 magpie for a long time and not having much luck, then saw 2 a few times and had better days. Today I saw 3 magpies. I have no plans for anymore kids right now by the way!

I got 3 magpies several times while TTC this baby. We shall see.

I got 2 a lot in the run-up to my BFP, too.

This is one superstition I happen to believe in greatly. Though I have worked out that I have to add up the amount of magpies I see in one day for the rhyme to be true.

1 for sorrow, two for joy, three for a girl, four for a boy etc

They're a pretty common garden bird in the UK and we have a superstition all around them based on the rhyme -
One for sorrow, two for joy,
Three for a girl and four for a boy.
Five for silver, six for gold,
Seven for a secret never to be told.
Eight for a wish, nine for a kiss,
Ten for a bird you must not miss!

If you see one single magpie you're supposed to salute it and say "Ay captain" to divert the bad luck.
