Apparently, Saint Valentine was originally associated with heavenly, divine, unconditional love, rather than romantic love. He died a martyr for his faith. The poet Chaucer later linked his feast day - the day he was thought to have been executed - to romantic love.

History of Valentines Day

I think a lot of people think Valentine's Day is a "made-up" holiday but it is one of many saints' feast days.

Perhaps rather more a day for unconditional love, compassion and random acts of kindness at its root, than a card and present for your lover. Perhaps that gives me an idea for something we can celebrate next year...

we were reading about him last night, we found it pretty amusing how things get so twisted around.
