They pick dinner...I make it or buy it. I make whatever cake they want and decorate it the best I can.
They've not invited friends yet except last month when Avery turned 7 and I asked a friend and her daughter to come. I think next year I'll let them invite 1-2 friends if they want. I prefer small, no major decor affairs....mostly just family when they're young.
Same stuff for each child(and Dan when he was alive). Nothings done for mine except what mom sends.
We have parties until the ripe old age of 11. By then, they are sort of bored with them. So, after 11, they get to invite a few friends to a fun activity. There is always cake! We get them gifts and usually take them to dinner on their actual birthday.
Until this year Daniel has just had immediate family tea parties.
We decided to go bigger this year and have a party for his school friends and a big party for family in August around their birthdays as it's Michaela's first.
Adults we only really celebrate the big birthdays. We might have a meal out or something, for some we have a big family party. I'm thinking of having one for my 40th, unless DP proposes in between in which case I'll plan a wedding instead.
Cake is a very important part of my diet, if there is an excuse for cake, even better.
As a child we always had something, sometimes a big party, sometimes a few friends over, but always some kind of dinner/party with family, my family is exceptionally close so I can't see that changing any time soon.
