Hi, my name is Amanda. I am 25 years old. I have been in the trying to conceive with medical assistace message board for about 2 1/2 years. We have tried InVitro 3 times. The 1st two times I didn't make hardly any follicles and the ones I did make didn't grow, This last time which was last week they retrieved 5 and come to find out its not just the quantity of them, but also the quality. The Dr. has recommended that we not try again because of all the emotional stress we have been under. He recommended using donor eggs or adopting. Oh the cause of all this is severe endometriosis. We are open to adoption and using donor eggs. I was just wondering how do we even get started. We live in Mobile, Alabama. We are looking to adopt in the US because we can't afford to adopt international. What are some adoption agencies that some of you chose? Thanks for any help! Amanda
Hi! I'm Beth, I'm from Huntsville, AL. Nice to "meet" you. I'm sorry for all the emotional stress you and your DH have been going through. I am a foster to adopt mom. DH and I chose to foster and adopt after our DS was stillborn. I must say it has been wonderful so far.
I would think the best way to ask friends and family who live near you if they have or know anyone who has experience with adoption agencies in your area. Private adoption can be very expensive too, so ask about all fees and such to make sure you can afford it. There are lots of adoption subsidy programs and adoption loans you can get though too. Good luck and welcome to the board!!
Welcome to the board. I would do some research and decide on domestic, foster care or international adoption. If you decide on International adoption, the next step is to pick a country. Once you chose that, you can search for an agency.
As for the money, typically, international adoption is cheaper than domestic private adoption. There are several loan programs available and some grants, as the other ladies have told you.
Good luck with your decision.
Hi and welcome to the group!! I'm sorry for all you've been through, but hope that adoption will fulfill your dream of becoming a mommy. It can be a long, draining process, but is of course, totally worth it.
Best of luck with getting started and please keep us posted on your progress!
Thank you all so much! We are still unsure of what we are going to do. I would love to do donor eggs and adopt, but each of them cost so much we are probably going to have to pick one or the other. And with donor eggs its no guarantee it will work. How much did it cost each of you do adopt if you don't mind me asking? Thanks
Adoption through foster care doesn't cost anything... well I guess unless you get your own private lawyer. We don't plan to do that. We haven't actually completed an adoption yet. The thing with foster care is that it is very hard to get a "newborn." Usually you will get older children (over a year or so).
