Hi, I'm adopted and I just wanted to thank you mothers and families who adopt, it means so much to us kids who have no where to go, and I'm glad that my adopted parents aren't the only ones who care enough to raise a child who technically isn't their own.

These experiences, while often difficult to bear at the time, are percisely the kinds of experiences that stretch our understanding, build our character and increase our compassion for others."

I'm glad my birth mother found us (err, I guess it was them before I was born). and chose my parents too.

Jess, I notice you're beginning the process to adopt, if I may, a piece of advice. If at all possible, (I don't know if this is possible from an adoptive parents side of the adoption,) but let the adoption be open, at least partially (like with one bio parent.) it makes a difference to the adopted child. Especially in the teenage years. One of my friends was adopted and it was a closed adoption and she seriously thought her bio parents didn't love her, even though her adopted parents would tell her constantly that her bio mother placed her for adoption because she (the bio mom) loved her enough to give her a set of parents, and not life with a teenage mom. I however, knew I was loved, not only by my adopted parents but by my bio dad and I think that really helped when I was going through all the teenage angst that girls go through.

I don't know if it's possible from the adoptive parents side to choose, "we want to be considered by biological parents who want an open adoption." but if it is, I strongly encourage it.
