I have never posted in this area before but I have always wanted to adopt and always felt like God was leading me to adopt, my husband still isnt really into the idea but i thought it might be good to get some information incase he changes his mind. We are a younger couple (i will be 21 in 2 months) and have an 8 month old son. We are also a military family and i dont know how it is for military families or even people our age....soo any information or advice would be great.

by the way, my name is alex!

Do you have any idea what type of adoption you'd be interested in? Newborn or older child? Are you open to disabilites, different races, or sibling groups? Domestic or international? Private agency or foster system? Those questions determine who is able to adopt. Each country and state has their own guidelines about age, how many children you already have, how long you've been married, etc.

Most adoption agencies and DHRs require a couple to have been married a certain number of years and be at least a minimum age. The most frequent I've seen is being married 3 years and being 25 or older. But of course, that varies depending on what you want to do.

You might also consider the costs of adoption. Private domestic adoption can be around $10K, international is usually a lot more, adoption through foster care is the most inexpensive, but you deal with the foster system that way.

BTW, welcome! I've always felt God wanted me to adopt children too (as long as I can remember). My DH didn't feel that way at all. I just brought it up every once in a while very casually. One day he came to me and said, "I think I am ready to look into adoption." And I had everything waiting... lol. We are foster parents now and hoping to adopt the little boy who is currently with us. It's a great process and I wish you all the best!
