I just wanted to take a moment to say hi and introduce myself to you all. I'm Stephanie(29), wife to Matt (26) and momma to Sierra (11) Will (8) and seven precious angels. My husband and I have said since we met that we wanted to have a couple of our own first (Sierra and Will are from my first marriage) and then we wanted to foster/adopt. After 4 years of TTC and 7 early miscarriages, we've decided it's time to move on. We are now working with the state of Iowa DHS to become foster parents and eventually to adopt.
We are very early in the process. We have a packet of paperwork to fill out, and we need to get our fingerprints done. Our first meeting in on Feb 22nd. If anyone has any advice or words of wisdom that you want to share with us during this journey we would love to hear them. I look forward to getting to know the ladies on this board much better in the coming months.
I'm glad you're starting the process, Stephanie. If I were starting an adoption from scratch, I'd probably go through a private agency and let them be my headhunters-here it costs about $8k, but they do all the work for you. I know nothing of fostering, so I won't be any help there. Good luck!!
I adore fostering. I have 4 kids in my care now along with my biological daughter. One of them we have had for a year and a half and we are hoping to able to adopt. The other three are siblings and will probably move home in the coming months.
Glad to "meet" you and I look forward to following your journey!
We considered using a private agency but we don't have that kind of cash available at the moment. It's all tied up in the house at the moment. Hopefully by this time next year (or sooner if possible) we will be ready to move on to adoption through a private agency. We still want to adopt an infant, and I've been told that is nearly impossible to do through the state. We do plan to continue fostering even after we adopt though.
the average wait here I was told for a healthy newborn through the free govt agency is ten years We knew we'd have to go through a private agency if I wanted a sibling for Nolan; luckily we didn't have to go that route.
We just got signed on with an agency this week. We also looked into Foster to Adopt but were discouraged that chances are we wouldn't be placed with an infant. We would like to start with an infant, then later on we are going to look into older sibling pairs.
Yet another wonderful siggy by HeatherW.... thank you so much!!!
