1. Can I stay on this board because I want to adopt? Or do I have to wait until I've adopted?
2. My friend is planning on fostering. She has 1 months to fix up her hosue in order to start the training classes. Is there any grants she could get from the state or otherwise to help offset the cost?
1) YES of course! We would love people who are just interested in the IDEA of adoption to be on here, so everyone is welcome!
2) No grants are available that I know of. What is wrong with the house that she must fix? I find as long as there is a place for a child and there are no safety issues, most states are MORE than willing to approve homes. I always say, they are looking to count you IN, not OUT.
There are safety issues, her kitchen ceiling is caving in. And her house is disgusting ( I say that with love because I am planning on helping her organzie and clean it.) She has un-housebroken dogs and cats. (iccky) And just her whole house is nasty.
Ahh yeah, those would have to be addressed. Check with the state too. Some states don't allow non-house trained pets in a foster home. Also, all the pets must have their up to date shots and records and be "nice" to strangers.
But, no, I've never heard or read of grants to get your house ready to be a foster parent in any state. I do know that one of the main things you must prove is that you have enough money to cover all your expenses each month. Major house repairs don't necessarily have to be included, but if she gets a loan for it, that would be.
