If you want to adopt, and you just want to get your homestudy completed.

DO you have to adopt right after you get your home study done?

Or can you just get it done to be ready?

I think it expires after a year if you don't adopt or foster within that time. I would call and check to be sure though.

I think we were told two years. I would imagine it is different for each state or agency so you should ask the one you are working with.

It is dependent on the state but it is typically only valid for one year or for any major milestone. So, for example, you switch a job or move, you have to have it updated. It isn't worth doing and just waiting because it is very expensive and a pain to update.

Ours will expire one year from our approval date. Then as long as we are still in the same house and jobs we can update it for a much cheaper cost. Even so, I wouldn't get it done until you are closer to ready.
